My grandfather, part 3 ..by Dr Ram Sharma

My grandfather-3
by Dr Ram Sharma

My grandfather narrated many accounts to me that included moments when he would meet many great saints in the himalayas.  He also narrated one incident that told how he was caught inside of an approaching snowstorm while going to Badrinath to Kedarnath.  There was no one around to help--as my grandfather was rolled within icebergs of an avalanche. Suddenly, a saint appeared to him while wearing white clothes who had come to save him.  He took him into his cottage--and grandfather wondered how there was no effect of the snowstorm upon that cottage.  That saint advised my grandfather that certain meditations of sadhana were able to accomplish this protection.  That very incident within the himalayas forever changed him within his understanding of mystical protection within the elements of nature.

He used to tell us about the Divine as the Ashta Maha Siddhis and their heart place of powerful sitthars--within many divine practices through austerities performed with ancient knowledge of yoga.  He explained how a yogi can shrink his body.  This is called anima or ever expand his body too, or mahima.  Through laghima,  a yogi can also lighten up his entire body weight and fly upon the air or can walk upon the water.  Patanjali yoga further describes these sacred transformations of siddhis or supernatural powers through a divine balance within.  Living in such divine balance brings one within the sacred five elements of life and these may be aquired by birth, by mantras, by meditation, by medicine and by tap.  My grandfather devoted his entire life for the sake of helping mankind.  He resigned from his job duties as a householder for his devotional being for life to open inside its healing cause.. serving all humanity!
