MY GRANDFATHER
by Dr Ram Sharma
My Grandfather -1
My grandfather, Sh. Jyoti Prasad Sharma ji, was a great yogi and ayurvedic doctor in every true sense of the word. He used to walk on all of his pilgrimages alone. All the year long, he was busy in going from one place to another. At our village, he used to wake up daily at four am in the morning-- after that, he would go to the Ganges canal which about two kilometers away. He used to pray two to three hours in the morning and one to two hours in the evening.
As I was a child then-- he used to narrate to me so many stories-- I have some deep memories within these transmissions.
In one of these, he told me he went to Badrinath Dham on foot-- through a wild forest with many wild animals. Because he was a great yogi--he used to say this... "When we see any wild animal--fear comes into our mind and after that we think of killing that animal--this same negative energy strikes into the mind of the wild animal and can cause that animal to even become ready to attack!
So if anyone will have good pure thoughts that are filled with compassion instead, any animal will not attack." He often found himself in many such incidents and no wild animal dared to ever attack him because he exuded such an aura of love and kindness for all beings.
He used to travel often from Badrinath Dham to Kedarnath by foot too. It is on the other side of the mountain and the travel distance is about 50 to 60 kilometers. He used to perform variouse devoted austere sadhanas there. He used his learning to locate certain trees and if anyone would eat those leaves of certain trees--they would have no hunger--no urine-- and no thirst-- and there a person could devotedly chant mantras while sitting at one of these pilgrimage sites.
In our village many patients and persons used to come to him with their problems. He would often solve certain critical cases through his vast knowledge of ayurveda that is rare today. His heart was full of social service as his sole motto--he never took money from any of these patients--as he was never after money for the help of his caring for others!
I salute to my grandfather for his great love for all life!!
